Space Devils in College

We had lunch with some sweet friends on Saturday and this is what they are reading: Stephan is reading Undergrads by Ian Smith, which “follows five college roommates navigating the messy chaos of young adulthood and unconventional friendships” and Jane is reading Project Hail Mary after seeing the film (which was great). Jane told us that the author sent Ryan Gosling a copy of the book before it was published, so he clearly had him in mind for that role!

Chris and Hannah drove up to Duluth and back in a very short window of time Thursday and listened the the audiobook of “The Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson. Chris likes this author and has read others of his books; they are historical, true books where he pulls together several strands of things happening at the same time that seem to converge in bizarre or magical ways. This one is more creepy than magical, he is writing about the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, the architects who built the “White City” in an effort to top the French World’s Fair that featured the Eiffel Tower, and the creepy, horrible serial killer who lurked near the fair and lured people into his “house of horrors”, never to be seen again.
